Gazebo

A portable gazebo-type structure was needed to centralize registration and management of events conducted on the trails.  This project was completed in 2006 with the construction of an 8x12 cedar gazebo in the grassy area near the trailhead.  The Ohio River Road Runners Club and the Miami Valley Mountain Bike Association combined financial forces to support the Friends effort to build the gazebo which was done at no cost by Custom Outdoor Structures.  The gazebo was used for picnics, weddings, a headquarters for biking events, a meeting place and a great place to hangout in hot weather.  Its a wonderfully useful and picturesque addition to the Park.

Picnic Tables

New picnic tables were acquired by the Park and two were placed in the gazebo area.  These heavy duty picnic tables are welcomed additions that are often moved in and out of the gazebo for weddings, races and other events.  To supplement these picnic tables, other seating options for the gazebo that avoid moving heavy picnic tables may be explored.

Trash Cans

In the summer of 2007 the Park provided much needed trash cans at the trailhead to Arboretum and at the gazebo.  These improvements are greatly appreciated and encourage park users to keep the park clean.

Changing Room

There is no facility for changing clothes at the trailhead of the multi-purpose trails.  A changing room would encourage more folks to use the trails as the nearest changing facilities are the restrooms which are located far from the trailhead. Installing a changing room has been selected as the project for 2008

Trail Improvement

Through a partnership with the Miami Valley Mountain Bike Association, mountain bike trails at John Bryan have been built and improved.  A fund to ensure that trails are maintained and a vehicle to aid people willing to help maintain the trails will ensure continuous improvement.  Also needed are strategically placed rock and gravel piles to be used on the trail to shore up tree roots and line creek beds and thus create more maintainable and sustainable trail tread.  This is important as trail usage increases park attendance by up to 900 people per month in the summer.
